How to create faux plants in 4 steps

How to create faux plants in 4 easy steps

Hi my sweet friend,

I am so obsessed with plants and I love how they bring live to a home.  In Germany I used to have a big window sill in my living room and I filled it up with tons of plants, real plants.  I would always lay on the couch after work and just look out the window.  It was so nice.  Unfortunately, we don’t have big window sills in our current home and even though our home is bright it is not bright enough for real plants.  So what’s the solution?  Faux plants.  Today I will teach how you can create your own faux plant in 5 easy steps.

How to create faux plants – step by step

This is such an easy and quick diy, you will be done in no time.  Let’s get into each step

Step 1: Cutting the Styrofoam

First of all take your Styrofoam bar and cut a piece off of it.  The thickness of the piece depends on how deep your plastic flower pot is.   After you cut of the piece place the flower pot over it and trace around the edge of the flower pot.  This will give you an idea of how wide the Styrofoam piece should be.  Afterwards cut the Styrofoam piece along the line you draw.

Step 2: Cutting and centering the plant/ bush

In this step you will first of all hold the bush or plant next to the flower pot to see how tall the plant will be without cutting.  Cut the bush so it will the height you desire. After you did your cutting place the Styrofoam into the flower pot.  Now take your bush and push into the center of the Styrofoam.  Take it out afterwards.  You will be left with a hole in the middle.

Step 3: Add dirt to the pot

Now you will take the spray adhesive and give the Styrofoam a good coat of glue.  Afterwards take your dirt and fill some of it into the pot.  Let it sit for a minute and then poor the excess dirt out the pot.

Step 4: Place the bush in the hole

Once you got all the excess dirt out take your faux bush and place it back into the hole.  Now let it all dry and you are all good to go!

So and that’s it, you are left with a beautiful faux plant.  Best part about this diy?  It’s not just easy but also super cheap.  I got the majority of my things at the Dollar store.  Win Win!
